Effective February 3, 2014, A New City of Ventura Ordinance is enforce. The rule is called "The City of Ventura Private Sewer Lateral Ordinance" It requires the owners of ALL Ventura residential and commercial property to perform a video inspection and repair (if necessary) of private sewer laterals (older than 10 years). This inspection and repair will be required at the point of sale of any property whose lateral sewer lines was not installed in the last 10 years. The inspection will be good for 10 years after the sale of the property.

Ventura's name came from the Mission San Buenaventura (Saint Bonaventure in Italian). Exactly why the name was shortened to Ventura in unclear. The history of Ventura began with the founding of the San Buenaventura Mission. The mission is still used for Catholic church services. It is also open to visitors. Ventura developed at its own pace due to the isolation from the southern part of California. It was difficult to reach Ventura until the Ventura Freeway from Los Angeles was completed in 1969.
